Power Manual Delay

First off, I would like to apologize for not having the MasterMaschine Power Manual up and online for you all to download and read. I had setup a few people to help me with this project because I realized that I couldn’t handle all the work on my own. Thinking I found reliable people, I was ready for the next phase which was to break the manual into segments and each one of us would write specific tutorials assigned to us for the Power Manual.

I now have come to the conclusion that I cannot really rely on these guys and have decided to revoke their involvement in this project and take it on all by myself again. In doing so, this has drastically set back this project. Please bare with me while I do this, one step at a time!

Prepare Ableton Live & Maschine Controller

If you are looking to use Maschine and Ableton Live together there are a few thing you need to do before you can have any fun. Here are the steps to copy the files necessary to make all this technical stuff work. It shouldn’t take you more than 10 minutes to do this as long as you have Ableton Live installed with no issues and Maschine installed with no issues. Here we go:

Controller Editor

  1. Open Controller Editor
  2. On the right hand side, under ‘Templates’ select Ableton Live
  3. Close Controller Editor

Required Files to be Copied

  1. First you have to copy some Native-instruments files. Here are the files and their locations:
  2. C:/ Program Files/Native Instruments/Controller Editor/Template Support Files/Ableton Live 8/
  3. Copy the Maschine_Controller folder
  4. Navigate to C:Program Files/Ableton/Live 8.0.4/Resources/MIDI Remote Scripts
  5. Paste the Maschine_Controller folder

Ableton Live Configuration

  1. Open Ableton Live
  2. Go to Preferences> MIDI Sync Tab
  3. In the Controller Surfaces area at the top, click the first drop down arrow and select ‘Maschine Controller’
  4. In the Input select Maschine Controller In
  5. In the Output select Maschine Controller Out

MIDI Ports

  1. In the Midi Ports section, hi light the boxes for Track and Remote on the Maschine Controller MIDI Input Port

Files & Folder Tab

  1. Click on the File / Folder Tab.
  2. Halfway down the page you will see the VST Plug-Ins section.
  3. Ensure that your VST Plug-In Custom Folder is pointing to your VST folder (in most cases: C:Program Files/Vstplugins or your >>DAW’s program folder<</Vstplugins).
  4. If not, click browse and navigate to those mentioned folders and select your ‘Vstplugins’ folder.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Rescan.
  7. After the scan, close Ableton Live and then re-open it.

You are done!

Maschine is now set up to work as a controller in Ableton Live.

What to do on Maschine?

  1. On Maschine, press and hold SHIFT and then press MIDI/CONTROL (on the top left of Maschine’s hardware)
  2. Because you preselected the Ableton Live Template in the Controller Editor and you performed the above steps (coping the files and folders and configuring Ableton live), when you put Maschine into ‘MIDI/Control’ mode the pads, stop, play and volume, record, mute and solo and much more can be manipulated from the Maschine hardware. That is another tutorial.

Have fun!

MPC to Maschine tutorial

Understanding sounds, samples, and keygroups!

This is part of a series of maschine tutorials that helps people moving over from the Akai MPC to Maschine.

This free Maschine tutorial explains some of the terms and ideas that may seem different, but can really be quite similar if they are explained properly.  This video deals with sounds, samples, and keygroups as it relates to coming from the MPC.
