In the today’s music, it is hard to ever come with something original. But I must say, The Magnificent Ruffians did it! There are many aspects to being a dope rhymer. Of course being able to write a good song is important but what many people tend to forget is the ability to freestyle is also needed to be a real emcee. It is that "real" feel that a lot of rappers are missing today. Magnificent Ruffians wanted to bring you an album with no rules, no 16 bar standards, no one saying our song has to be under 3 minutes, no clean versions for radio stations, no adlibs… just raw hip-hop shit! The Paper Lanterns collective is a group of well rounded producers and emcees. This is honest art and music made for the masses! This is a place that artists can call home. A collective of like minded individuals whose mission is to be uncompromising in the face of the mediocrity we find scattered through out the day. Brave souls who epitomize the words do it yourself. Producers and emcees who are students of the art that they practice. They produce their own tracks, they write own own lyrics, they mix, master, and market their own music, because quite frankly they are control freaks and they like it that way.
Apologies. The sound of one hand clapping. The space between a rock and a hard place. Every single word in those phrases describe Kid Presentable!!! and his music. He strives to keep his music honest, as honest as a hard days work. Writing lyrics and spoken word since he was 10, he became a producer out of sheer necessity. Now you can catch him spewing random non sense influenced by the likes of Sole, El-P, 2mex, Rakim, Aesop Rock and many many more. A lyricist in every sense of the word, he attempts to intertwine social commentary,environmental awareness, and political mumbo jumbo with blatant drug and alcohol and an existentialist frame of thought.
Morbdily-O-Beats also known as M.O.B is a hip-hop producer out of Chicago IL. His weapon of choice is the MPC 2000xl, but he also uses a dr. sample sp-303, Kaoss pad KP3, Mico Korg, and Korg Elcetribe esx1. On any given day you can find him in the lab choppin dusty records into what he calls gutter funk, or at the local record store diggin for found sounds and dollar bin deals. Morbid started out as a rapper in 2000 but decided to focus more on production when he bought his first MPC in late 2003. Morbid still raps occasionally under the moniker J.Harles although he prefers to be behind the scenes cookin up beats for other rappers. In 2009 M.O.B and G.C.S (GreenCarpetedStairs) put out the album Dirty Pretty Ugly Sh*t. M.O.B handled the drums on the album and also added vocals to two of the tracks. Morbid also works very closely with Hoot AKA 13th Day. They have worked together since the very begging. M.O.B is currently working on multiple projects such as an album with rapper Kid Presentable!!!, an album with Hoot aka 13th Day, and a solo album.
Sleeps Numb is a dreamer. His fingers paint pictures that are stuck in limbo. Somewhere between Psych-Rock, Ambient and Hip-hop Beats is where this man makes his home. His music paints ethereal landscapes that borrow from his surroundings. A current resident of San Diego, CA it is not uncommon to here a crashing wave or a sea bird in the distance as the beat comes in. So after some time of editing I finally have the video for “My Own Home” completed. The song features Swift Dixshun, Mando The DJ, Obsurd1der and Kizm. The track was basically made by all of us in a collaborative effort. For all of those that represent IE hip-hop, take the time, show some support for those holding it down in your area.

So, I was just checking my emails and stumbled on this interview with “Magnificent Ruffians” and “Fat Cap Magazine” which I think was pretty eye opening. Ever since I was exposed to “Magnificent Ruffians” I knew they were talented. After reading the interview I have gained a whole new respect for the “Magnificent Ruffians” and what they are trying to do with their music.
I don’t want to get into too much detail because the interview does that in itself, so take a some time, read the interview… You will see a few videos and gain some insight into the Hip-Hop community and what it means to the Ruffians.
We are pleased to announce that Earthtones 2 has finally been cleared and distributed to MySpace Music, iTunes and Zune.
