Pernod Fils Biography

Pernod Fils is a dark alternative rap artist from West Michigan, operating under the self-created label Under Ground Control Entertainment. His music began to take shape after collaborations with bands in the west Michigan metal music scene. Current material is designed to be dark, eerie, and thought provoking. Subject matter is vast; it ranges from everyday stressors to paranormal activity, outer space, extraterrestrials, speculation about reincarnation, and everything in between. The lyrics are not rushed; they are calculated and practiced.

The name (Per-no Fils) is derived from the first factory to commercially manufacture Absinthe - a drink popular amongst poets and artists around the turn of the 20th century. Absinthe contained an element called wormwood oil extract, which produced hallucinogenic effects when consumed. This property allowed those seeking creative energy to effectively induce an open mind. Pernod Fils is nothing more than a synonym of this - a statement of what this music is intended to do.

Pernod has been making music since late 1999. Projects completed include: 'The Dignified Nights Demo', released in July of 2001; and 'Alchemy of Noise', the debut full-length album, released in August of 2004. The second full-length project, tentatively titled 'Dead Poets Society' is slated for completion in early 2006.

Fils grew up listening to the roots of rap as we know it, such as: N.W.A, Public Enemy, ICP, Geto Boys, and Cypress Hill. His own music collection ranges from everything noted above to Marilyn Manson, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Shadows Fall, and even some blues. The underlying element within Pernod Fils is to be original, incorporate lessons learned, reflect stress, and create a hard, dark sounding and thought-provoking message. It's not to get the crowd moshing; it's designed to mesmerize with eeriness and make people wonder about weird ideas and strange aspects.

Live shows portray the same vision and ideals of the music itself. With lighting, theatrics, smoke, and the presence of Toxsynn - Pernod's long-standing hype-man and fellow Under Ground Control Artist.
